Your Wedding Day is Not about the photos

Perhaps an unpopular opinion

Your wedding isn’t a show. It’s not made for Instagram or Pinterest — not about every design decision, every bouquet detail, or (gasp) even your dress. Don’t get me wrong. I delight in beautiful things. But your wedding day should be about your marriage. About honoring the paths and decisions that brought you here. About celebrating with the people who played a role in your story as individuals and as a couple.

THAT is what I aim to capture. Your story. Your relationships. Your spark.

The gleam in your eye when you see your person for the first time. The weird humor you have with your best friends. The laughter erupting when the Best Man shares maybe just a little too much about “the good ole days.” That is what your wedding day is about. That is what I’m here for.

how i approach wedding photography

My Approach

Wedding photography is a delicate dance of candid and posed, real and guided. The in-betweens — the missed glances, the quiet moments between moments — are my bread and butter. But it’s also important that you feel completely at ease in your portraits and group shots.
Throughout the day I’ll guide you through poses and prompts, so you never have that “what do I do with my hands” feeling. I’m not here to enforce my style on you. I’m here to read the energy of you and your day — and tell your story accordingly.

Wedding Photography Packages

add-ons

Think of a Second Shooter as greater insurance for the in-betweens. While I’m capturing her walking down the aisle, Second Shooter is capturing his reaction. While I’m with the bridal party getting ready, Second Shooter is with the guys. While I’m photographing you at the altar, Second Shooter is capturing the tears and laughs in the audience. More coverage, more candid moments, more of the day fully documented.

The
Engagement
Session

Included with every wedding package. More than just a bonus.

Think about what makes you two feel like you. Is that an oversized tee and a long walk? Champagne on a rooftop? Letting me tag along on an actual date? Whatever feels genuinely like you — that’s the starting point. I’ll take it from there.

Here’s an honest truth: most of us feel a little strange in front of a camera at first. I know I did. The engagement session isn’t just a perk I throw in — it’s one of the most genuinely useful things we do together. By the time your wedding day arrives, the camera feels familiar. You do too.

We figure out what makes you two feel natural. We find your rhythm. We work through the awkward moments in a low-stakes setting so they don’t have a chance to happen when it counts. By the time we’re done, you’ll walk into your wedding day feeling like pros.

My one rule for engagement shoots: golden hour. I shoot early morning or in the evening before the sun sets — the light is just better, and your photos will show it.

What you bring: yourselves. Have a vision, or hand me the creative reins entirely — both are equally perfect. I’ll ask about your inspiration, maybe prompt some ideas, and then we get into it. We are going to have fun.

8 Hours of Coverage

Sample Wedding Day Timeline

Every wedding is its own — and we'll build your actual timeline together in the month before your wedding. Here's what a typical 8-hour day looks like, so you can see how all the pieces fit.

  • We start with the details that set the scene — your dress, your rings, your invitation suite, the bouquet. Then the good stuff: the giggles with your bridesmaids, your mom zipping up your dress, the "it's really happening" looks on everyone's faces. These are some of my favorite moments of the entire day.
Tip Have all your detail items gathered in one spot before I arrive — rings, invitation suite, shoes, florals. It makes for a seamless start and means we're not hunting for things when the light is perfect.
  • The quiet ones. Mom buttoning your dress. A moment of solitude before the world descends. Things begin to feel real here — and I want to leave space for that. Some of the most emotional, intimate photos of the whole day come from these few minutes.
  • Whether you see each other for the first time at the First Look or at the aisle, this is the moment I'm here for. We'll find a beautiful location, let you breathe together, and celebrate the fact that you're actually doing this. No distractions, no performance — just the two of you.
Tip I love First Looks — they create a private moment before the world shows up and open up more portrait time in the day. But I'm also a romantic, and I completely understand wanting to wait for the aisle. Either way, we'll make it beautiful.
  • Your people. The formal shots, the fun ones, the individual pairings you'll want to look back on for decades. I'll wrangle everyone efficiently so you're not standing around in heels longer than you need to be.
Tip Gentle reminder to everyone in the party: don't forget the florals. Bouquets and boutonnieres have a way of disappearing right when you need them.
  • Cue the tears, the laughter, the relief, and the JOY. This is what the whole day has been building toward. I stay completely unobtrusive here — moving quietly, staying out of the way, catching every expression and every exchanged glance.
  • While your guests enjoy a drink, we knock out the family photo combinations from your prepared shot list — quickly and efficiently, so you can get to the hugs and the party.
Tip Send me your family photo list before the wedding day. The more specific the groupings, the faster we move — which means more time for you to actually enjoy your cocktail hour.
  • First dances, dinner, speeches, cake cutting, the full energy of the evening in motion. All of it documented. I'll stay coordinated with your DJ or planner on timing so nothing slips by.
  • I'll sneak you two away for about 15 minutes during the reception — guests won't even notice, and it's truly not odd at all. The responsibilities of the day are behind you, the light is golden, and all that's left is the two of you. These tend to become some of the most loved photos of the day.
Tip If you're feeling fully in the moment and don't want to step away, that's completely fine. Your wedding is a celebration, not a photoshoot. I'll be there to capture the day, no matter how it evolves.
  • A few final frames of the floor — the full energy, everyone's hair a little less perfect, everyone's joy a little more real. And probably a fat hug from me, because what a day we just had.

Timelines are built together. In the month before your wedding, we'll meet to finalize your day's flow so every moment has the space it deserves. This is a sample — yours will be made just for you.

step 01

Select Your Package

Reach out with your wedding date and the package you’re interested in. We'll schedule a phone call (or coffee date!) to answer any questions you have and make sure we're a good fit. Next, I’ll send your contract and invoice — once those are signed and the deposit is paid, your date is officially on the books!

step 02

Wedding Prep

I'll send you my comprehensive Wedding Guide that answers loads of wedding questions and helps you think through a wedding that is fully you. In the months leading up to your wedding, we’ll work together to finalize your wedding day timeline, making sure the flow of the day is natural and creates space for the photos you’re hoping for.  I'll gather your vendors contact information, your family photo list, and every other detail needed to ensure a smooth-sailing day.

step 04

Gallery Delivery

Within 48 hours, you'll receive a handful of sneak peaks because, hello, I'm just as excited as you are and will need to share! Within 8 weeks, you'll receive your full online gallery where you can print, download, and share as you please. I'll also send you a beautiful linen keepsake box with a selection of my very favorite photos, printed by my preferred print shop, along with a USB drive with your gallery so you will always have a backup.

step 03

Wedding Day

It’s going to be so good. I’ll be capturing hundreds of photos while staying flexibly in step with your schedule, present for every moment — the big ones you planned for and the small ones that catch you by surprise. You spend more time with your photographer on your wedding day than almost anyone else. I don’t take that lightly! Every couple is different - some like a more structured approach, some like full relaxation. Some want to maximize portraits, some want to live fully in the moment. Whatever your energy, I'm here to accommodate and ensure your day feels authentic to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you want to know before you reach out — and a few things you didn't think to ask yet.

  • Absolutely! We can proceed with booking your estimated amount of coverage, and add additional hours or a second shooter at a later date — we'll simply revise the contract and invoice accordingly. It's likely your timeline won't be solidified until much closer to your date, and that's the perfect time to revisit and extend if needed. And if it's the literal day of your wedding and you want me to stay later on the dance floor? By all means. We can add coverage even then.
  • Once you've selected your package, I'll send your contract and invoice. A retainer is due at signing to hold your date. The remaining balance is due 30 days before your wedding.
  • Yes! I'm based in Kansas City and available to travel. Travel fees vary depending on distance — reach out and we can talk through the details.
  • Some situations — like being in different cities — make an engagement session difficult, and that's okay. I'll simply deduct my session fee from your invoice. That said, I highly encourage them even when people think they don't want them. It's our chance to work together before your wedding day so you're completely comfortable in front of my camera. Time for us to really get to know each other, for me to understand your vibe, how you like to pose, how you two move together. It's genuinely fun — and you'll walk away with so many photos from this particular chapter before you're married.
  • I'm not scared of rain at all. The only thing that makes a rainy wedding day difficult is if the couple loses heart over the weather — but if you come prepared with umbrellas and stay positive, there is nothing to worry about. Rainy wedding days can be romantic and magical. Some of my most beautiful images have come from days that started with a forecast exactly like that. If you're willing to lean into it, I'm absolutely here for it.
  • That's up to you — but I say this with your absolute best interest at heart: don't be afraid to let it get a little dirty. I know. I know it's expensive. And I know you feel incredible in it. But this is probably the one day in your life you get to wear this gown. Want to walk through tall grass or along the water's edge for a photo that will blow you away? Let's do it. Almost always, the dress never gets as dirty as you think it might — and the photos are always worth it. And let's not forget: post-production editing exists for a reason.
  • I always arrive with two camera bodies, multiple lenses, and plenty of backup batteries and memory cards. If something were to happen to my equipment — which it never has — we'd be fully sorted and prepared. You can leave that worry entirely off your list.
